Chapter 5 - Taking One Step Forward

As we were crouched down at the moment, we held each other. After a while, Gerber-kun's condition recovered somehow. 

MC: Gerber-kun? 

Gerber: ...Yeah, I'm okay now. 

When he raised his head, he gave me refreshing smile. 

Gerber: I wonder why? It could be because I was talking to you while holding you to my chest. My chest does feel lighter. 

He held my hand strongly. 

Gerber: Yeah, I'm fine now. Now, I can proceed like this. 

MC: ...Okay. 

When I deeply nodded, he moved his gaze towards the inside of the cave. The dark condensation in the cave suddenly disappeared. 

(It's okay, I'm not scared...) 

With Gerber-kun's courage taking an effect on me, we took a step forward together...

Last Chapter - Determination and Spring's Arrival

The goddess that we were looking for was said to be in the deepest part of the cave... Within the darkness, the two of us continued walking.

After a while, we arrived and suddenly saw a huge underground lake. 

Gerber: It's here... The goddess should be here. 

In the middle of the vast lake in the cave, there was stone altar. When Gerber-kun walked towards the altar one step at a time, he got down on one knee in front of it. 

Gerber: Goddess... The land of Vilastin is waiting for the drop of the first bloomed flower of this year. 

As he stayed close in front of the goddess statue at the altar, a single drop fell from the bottle around his neck. 

Gerber: Please, hear my wish... As a prince, I want to gain confidence... Even though I'm still inexperienced right now... I will do whatever I can with all my might... For everyone's sake... 

He prayed for his wish. Then... 

MC: This is...!? 

Gerber: ...!

A bright divine light was released from the goddess statue and the entire area became white...

The scent of spring tickled my nose... 

MC: This place... is...? 

When I slowly opened my eyes... 

Before me was a vast scenery that was making me doubt my own eyes. Over there were large flowers and gerberas that were fully bloomed in a horizontal never ending flower field. 

MC: ...

Gerber: ... 

Both Gerber-kun and I quietly looked at the beautiful view and were speechless. 

MC: Ah... 

When a gentle breeze touched my cheek, a flower petal fluttered in the blue sky like snow at that moment. 

MC: Pretty... 

Gerber: I can't believe it... Even though this area was still covered in snow... 

MC: Eh? 

When I looked at the flower field again after he said that, I noticed something about this place. 

MC: This place, could it be that this is where you were sleeping from the start... 

Gerber: That's right, I was sleeping in a snowy field outside of town. Yet, it feels as if spring has arrived at this very moment... Haha... It's unbelievable... Right? 

After Gerber-kun softly laughed, he looked out into the distant flower field. 

Gerber: I... Even though I was thinking about those around me, I wonder if I was thinking for myself in the end? The time when you woke me up... I wanted to hurry and wake up the flowers that were sleeping in this area as well. I should've told you those few words... 

MC: But, the cold... 

Gerber: No... 

He quietly shook his head and plucked a flower from the ground. 

Gerber: ...Since I was chosen as a prince by the goddess, I had to do it. But, I ended up forgetting something so simple... MC-san...

MC: ...!

When he turned towards me, he softly smiled at me. It wasn't the smile that was sweet like a flower from before, but a strong smile... 

Gerber: I'm okay now. As a prince of this kingdom, I will do what I can from here on and become strong. Me doing something might not change anything now. But, no matter how small it is, I will always start with a small step... 

When he approached me, he placed the gerbera in my hair. 

MC: Gerber-kun... 

As we gazed at each other closely, we became excitedly happy. Then, once our hands were together... Our fingers deeply entwined with each other one by one... 

Gerber: ...Thank you, MC-san... 

His words were filled with warmth as he said that in my ear.

As those words were spreading slowly and deeply, I realized that spring has arrived in my heart...
