Chapter 6 - As a Stuntman

The night when Jet-san received two acting offers... I was curious about what answer Jet-san was going to think of and visited him. 

Jet: What's wrong? Can't sleep? 

MC: That's not it... 

When Jet-san invited me in, he sat down in a chair.

(Will he... tell me?)

With little words, I looked at the document that he was holding... 

Jet: Is it about the acting role? 

MC: ...!

When he was right on the mark, I slowly nodded. Then, he placed the document from the studio people on top of the desk. 

Jet: I've already made my decision. If there are people that need me as a stuntman, I'll do it since that's the path I'm taking. 

(Jet-san...!) 

MC: But... Isn't the job dangerous? 

After looking over the document, I interjected. In the document, it contains many dangerous action scenes and it said that the main character could become gravely injured. 

MC: If something were to happen in one of them... 

Jet: Yeah, I've been told to be aware of the dangerous stuff. But, as a first-rate stuntman, I won't let an accident happen. I will succeed and even though you're worried, won't you come watch? 

MC: Okay...

(Since this is the path that Jet-san has chosen, I have to support him...) 

I became filled with uneasiness... 

Chapter 7 - The Resolution to do the Dangerous Challenge

-Flashback-

Jet: I've already made my decision. If there are people that need me as a stuntman, I'll do it since that's the path I'm taking. 

-Flashback-

A few days later ever since I've visited Jet-san's room... After Jet-san told the studio that he has accepted to be a stand-in double, they immediately started filming. As Jet-san carried out his duty as a double in worrying scenarios, the filming was going well... 

(As long as things keep going on like this, the filming will end safely.) 

The night when I thought of that, I was called over to Jet-san's room. 

MC: Jet-san, it seems like things are going well, are you hurt? 

Jet: Hey, we've just started, so nothing like that has happened!

Jet-san frowned towards my words. 

Jet: Don't worry, the area has been set to be perfectly safe. Although... 

Jet-san's expression clouded up. 

Jet: Tomorrow... We're going to film a scene where I'll have to do a stunt that could injure me greatly. 

MC: ...! 

When I saw a dark look in Jet-san's eyes, pain took hold of my heart. 

Jet: I have done all sorts of stunts, but in tomorrow's filming, it's going to be my most dangerous. 

MC: N-No way... 

(If something were to happen...) 

Just as I thought of that, I felt myself becoming crushed with worry and anxiety. 

MC: Um... Can I come to the filming too?

Jet: ...! You? 

MC: Yes.

(Even though I don't know what kind of role he's playing... I want to watch him from the sidelines at least.)

Jet: ...

When Jet-san thought about it for a bit...

Jet: Okay, fine!

MC: ...!

Jet: Only because I feel like I can do my best with you watching. 

MC: Okay...!

After hearing that from Jet-san, I nodded deeply...

Then, the next day, I showed up at Jet-san's filming site. 

(...I'm so nervous.)

At the site, the atmosphere was completely different than usual. Since today's filming will be a scene in the middle of town, the set has been assembled in a certain area. 

(Such a large set... So today, Jet-san will be...) 

When I looked up at the assembled platforms, my legs began to tremble in fear. 

Jet: MC, you came, just like you promised. 

MC: Yes, please be careful... 

After I prayed for his safety with both hands together, Jet-san smiled. 

Jet: Yeah!!

Then, he placed one of his hands on top of my joined hands. 

Jet: I'll show you the best aggressive stunt, so just keep on rooting for me. 

MC: ...Okay. 

Contrary to his confidence, I was slightly shaking. Despite how nervous I was feeling, it seemed like it couldn't be helped since he's been looking forward to this from the start... 

Staff: The filming will be starting soon!

MC: ...!

After the staff shouted that, Jet-san went off. What only remained was the warmth of his hand that was over mine...

Last Chapter - The Best Stuntman

Thus, the filming of the troubling scene of where the main character gets hurt started. In front of the set, Jet-san, the director and the staff were going through all the details. 

Jet: About the position after the explosion, won't that be a little dangerous if we do it at that spot? Judging from my experience... 

Director: I see. Then, we'll do as you say and change it. 

Based off from Jet-san's experience, everyone nodded towards his advice. 

(Jet-san's amazing...) 

Taking the initiative, the staff went off and carried out his request. 

(Even so, I'm really worried...)

As I was unsure about what I should be doing, I held both of my hands together again. 

Stuff: The gunpowder is all set!

When the staff gave the signal, the clamoring filming set immediately became silent. 

Director: Now then, scene 178, escaping from the explosions!

The director shouted that out loud. 

I looked over the scrip that Jet-san gave me before the filming started... 

-Flashback-

Jet: First, fire will be appearing from both sides of the building and explosion sounds will go off. After that, huge explosions will go off in the building that I'll be in and from there, I have to escape by following the gun powder. Although, if I get my timing wrong during the chain of explosions in the escape, my life could be put on the line. 

-Flashback-

(His life...) 

After hearing that, I thought about it. 

(Will he be okay...) 

My heart began to beat rapidly from anxiety and fear. Then... The edge of the set began to be engulfed in red flames. 

(...It's starting!)

Along with the working staff and aides, we were all watching closely from afar. 

(Jet-san... Please be safe!)

Then, when the gunpowder began to turn into flashy explosions the next moment... 

MC: !!

The sound of an explosion was heard from the town. The staff that were on high alert and the cameraman began to panic. 

Staff 1: Hey, wasn't that too much gunpowder!? 

Staff 2: No way, it can't be... Did the explosion spread out to another spot!? 

(Eh...!?) 

When I heard that, a cold chill went down my spine. 

(What about Jet-san!?)

After that planned explosion, they immediately began to get away from the set. Although, I couldn't find him... 

Staff 3: Has the rescue party arrived yet!? 

Staff 4: Director, it's going to get dangerous if we continue! We have to stop filming immediately!

Director: No!! I believe in Jet!

With wishful thinking, I believed that Jet-san was safe...

......

Then...

Jet: Owowowow... 

MC: Are you okay? 

Jet: This sort of thing is nothing! Also, did you see that!? 

Aside from me being worried, Jet-san showed a bright smile. His face and clothes were both damaged with soot and ashes... 

MC: I didn't... 

When I remembered what happened earlier, my heart felt like it was about to break at any moment now. 

Jet: S-Sorry! I must've made you worried!

As if he understood, Jet-san started to panic and awkwardly patted my head as I was looking down. 

Jet: Hey, let's go take a look at the shot. 

Jet-san placed his hand on my back and pushed me towards the camera. 

MC: ...

As I remembered the shock from earlier, I nervously looked at the camera... 

MC: Ah...

Along with just rumbling and surging flames, something was showing in the center... 

From the interval of the flames, Jet-san jumped out. Seeing him like that makes him look like a phoenix that is calmly flying in the flames... 

(So cool...!) 

Before I knew it, I gasped in admiration. 

Staff: As expected from an action star!

Even the staff were completely in awe as they were charmed by Jet-san. 

Jet: How was it? Didn't my best stunt excite you? 

MC: ...

I silently looked at Jet-san with a smile. 

Jet: What, it looks like you were completely moved, MC!

MC: You were cool... But... I was really worried...

When I told him that honestly... 

Jet: ...Thanks. I was in a little pinch, but I managed to show it to you. 

With a soft expression, Jet-san gave me a serious and kind look. After he narrowed his eyes, he placed my cheek against his chest. His large hand... It was on my head gently. 

(Ah... This sound.) 

As my ear was on the left side of his chest, I could hear the sound of his heart beating calmly. While I was listening to it, that was enough to fill me with reassurance.

MC: ...I'm glad that you're all right. 

When I said that shakily, his arms held me tighter. 

Jet: Stupid. Didn't I tell you that I would come back? I'm the best stuntman after all!

Then, he made a broad smile on his stern face. 

MC: ...Yes!

I smiled wholeheartedly as well. Despite that Jet-san's smile was covered in dark soot... 

(He really did make me worried, but...) 

As I was in Jet-san's huge warm arms, I imagined him shining as the world's best stuntman in the future...
