Chapter 5 - Run!

(W-What should we do?) 

From the thick shadows, there was a pair of suspicious glowing eyes glaring at us. As my legs were cowering in fear, Shigure-san was trembling as he was turning pale.

When I picked up the puppy, I clung onto Shigure-san tightly. 

Shigure: MC... 

Shigure-san gripped the dagger that he just got back. 

MC: Shigure-san... 

The wolf gradually approached us. Then, it jumped at us from the dark shadows...

Just as I thought of that and closed my eyes at that moment, my body suddenly felt light.

I opened my eyes to see that Shigure-san was carrying me in his arms. In my arms, the puppy innocently tilted his head to the side. 

MC: Shigure-san...

Shigure: ...Let's go!

Shigure-san ran at full speed away from the wolf. Although, the wolf came after us again...

Shigure: MC... J-Just hang onto me...!

MC: O-Okay!

As Shigure-san was carrying me and the puppy, he ran through the forest with all his strength. Although, a few more wolves were coming after us and Shigure-san's feet were gradually getting slower. 

(They're going to get us at this rate!) 

When I thought of that, the puppy tried to get out of my arms. 

MC: Please, be good... 

(Huh?) 

The puppy was making affectionate cries towards the wolf. When the wolf heard them. it responded back. 

(Could it be that?) 

MC: Shigure-san...!

Shigure: W-What...? 

Shigure-san said that unsteadily as he was panting in pain. 

MC: It's possible that the wolf is the puppy's mother!

Shigure: Eh...!

MC: Look, the puppy isn't scared and he's being affectionate for some reason. 

When Shigure-san stopped as he was confused, I gently put the puppy down. Then, the puppy wagged his tail as he ran over to the wolves.

The wolves stopped chasing us. 

Puppy: Woof. 

After he thanked us with a bark, he returned to the forest with his wolf family. 

Shigure: That's good... Right? 

MC: Y-Yeah... 

Just as our anxiety came to an end, Shigure-san and I both crouched down in place. 

Shigure: I never thought that it was a wolf's child... 

MC: I know... How surprising. 

When we looked at each other, we smiled. Then, Shigure-san looked at the dagger in his hand. 

MC: I'm glad that you got your dagger back. 

Shigure: ...

Shigure-san looked at the dagger closely. 

MC: Shigure-san? 

Shigure: Ah, yeah... It's nothing, let's go back to the castle. 

When Shigure-san got up, he held his hand out to me. Even though his hand was no longer trembling when I held it, I noticed that Shigure-san looked a little sad...

After Shigure-san took a deep breath, he looked at me while looking apologetic for some reason. 

Shigure: I... I ran away again... 

He put the dagger in his pocket.

When Shigure-san said that meekly, he looked down again.

After I said that, my cheeks were blushing.
