Chapter 6 - Taking on the Challenge

When Vio-san's foot got injured from the thumbtacks that were in his shoes, after he was given some simple treatment, he started warming up soon after. 

(Despite how there were thumbtacks and that he was bleeding... Yet...) 

While he was given treatment earlier, Vio-san's foot was trembling a little. As I was blinking uneasily, I could feel how agitated he was... 

MC: Vio-san... How about you do this on another day? 

When I became unbearably worried, I asked him that. 

Vio: No, I need to do it today. If I don't do it today... it'd be meaningless. 

Seeing how Vio-san was forcing himself was scaring me. 

Vio: MC, you go watch from the spectator seats with that boy. Got it? 

Vio-san grabbed both of my shoulders and looked at me seriously... 

Chapter 7 - A Fist of a Promise

Before the challenge, it has become lively in the town of Recordo...

-Flashback-

Vio: No, I need to do it today. If I don't do it today... it'd be meaningless. MC, you go watch from the spectator seats with that boy. Got it? 

-Flashback-

Doing what Vio-san told me, I searched for the boy outside the field, so that we could watch his short-distance run together and while I was looking around...

(Ah, it's that boy.)

When I found the boy, he was slightly crouched down in the corner of the street. 

MC: ...What's wrong? Vio-san's short-distance run is about to start soon, so how about we watch together? 

When I spoke to him, the boy looked up at me with his eyes that became wet from tears. 

Boy: Prince Vio... Didn't he get hurt? 

MC: Eh...? 

Boy: I... I thought that I really shouldn't have, so I took them all out. But, but, it seemed like there were still some left in them... 

(The thumbtacks in the shoes... This boy did it...) 

Boy: I've done something really bad! Even though Prince Vio didn't do anything bad!

When the boy started letting out huge drops of tears, I gently stroked his back. 

MC: It's okay. Vio-san wasn't mad at all and he said that he wanted you to watch him do the challenge. 

Boy: But... 

MC: Vio-san's best specialty is running. Also, he said that he wanted to make a new record by himself by training. 

When I continued persuading him gently, the boy wiped his tears away and got up. 

Boy: Okay...!

Just as we returned to the field, Vio-san appeared at the grounds. 

(I wonder if he notices us...) 

Thinking that it might be difficult to do so since we were in a large crowd of spectators, I waved my hand greatly and... 

Vio: ...!

Vio-san noticed us immediately and greatly waved back.

Vio: Just you watch! Today's the day I'm getting first place! I'll definitely keep my promise! It's a promise between men after all.

Vio-san held his fist towards us. His very bright smile showed that he wasn't feeling any agitation or gloom from his injury. 

MC: Aren't you going to cheer him on? 

When I softly spoke to the boy, he hesitantly raised his hand... 

Vio: It's a promise...!

Just as Vio-san shouted loudly to stir things up, he raised his fists up high. Two fists were raised up towards the perfectly clear sky. 

(That's good... You can do it, Vio-san!) 

As I strongly prayed internally, I watched the field. 

Announcer: The challenge for the short-distance run world record will be starting soon. 

After the announcer's voice went around the area, the spectators' voices became louder. While focusing his mind, Vio-san took deep breaths repeatedly and stood at the starting line... 

Last Chapter - Goddess of Victory

The area became filled with a tense atmosphere... Vio-san's concentration was high as he was looking straight at the goal with a sharp gaze. 

(Vio-san...!) 

Then, the moment the starting pistol went off, Vio-san ran as fast as the wind. 

Spectator 1: Prince Vio!!

Spectator 2: You can do it!!

Loud cheers were going out to him. As I was gripping my hand tightly, I took a glance beside me and saw that the boy was making a tense expression. Then, just as the short time that felt long ended... 

Announcer: GOOOAAAL!!! Prince Vio, Prince Vio's time was...! I-I don't believe it, it's the same as the world record! It's exactly the same as the world record...!

Along with that announcement, the area became flooded with cheers and applause.

MC: Vio-san...!

Just as I shouted that, I ran over to Vio-san with the boy. 

MC: Vio-san! Congratulations. 

Vio: ...

MC: Vio-san? 

After sighing deeply, Vio-san hung his head down. 

Vio: It was no good, I was unable to pass the record... 

Seeing how hung up he was about becoming first place gave me a searing pain. 

(But, everyone's smiling like this... Even though they're all celebrating for Vio-san.) 

At that moment... 

Boy: You were so cool...!

Vio: You... 

The boy became excited and said that loudly. 

Boy: Um... Um, Prince Vio, I'm sorry...!

Then, the boy lowered his head deeply. 

Vio: You don't need to say anything. More importantly, thanks for coming to watch me!

When he said that as he patted the boy's head that was hung down, Vio-san looked at him gently. 

Vio: I promised after all. So, I should-

Boy: Don't...!

Vio: But, I need to keep my promise. 

Boy: In that case... In that case, keep on doing challenges from now on! You're supposed to do what I say, right? 

After saying that tearily, the boy appealed to Vio-san. 

Vio: ...

MC: Vio-san. You need to keep your promise. 

When I smiled as well, I placed my hand on the boy's back and looked at Vio-san. 

Vio: ...I guess so. Then, I'll keep on doing challenges just as you say. So, you shouldn't give up either. It'll be all over when you give up and there won't be any more futures for dreams. Even when someone feels like giving up, there'll always be chances for them as well. I'll keep on doing as many challenges as I want! I'll be doing my best from here on as well. 

As a tear was showing in his bright eyes, the boy nodded greatly... 

That night, a grand celebration party was being held when we returned to the castle. Even now, Vio-san's happy expression and how he looked when he made it to the finish line was still etched in my eyes. 

MC: Vio-san, congratulations. 

When we went to the courtyard to take a little breather together, I congratulated him many times now. 

Vio: Thank you. Well, I'm still feeling a little complicated about the fact that I didn't get first place though... 

MC: But, I was really happy and deeply moved... 

Vio: Did I give you a dream too? Along with being moved. 

MC: Yes. Of course. 

Vio: I see. Then, I really can't give up here!

MC: ...!

Just as he said that happily, Vio-san held my wrist and picked me up. When I placed my head against Vio-san's chest as he was holding me up in the air unstably, my heart skipped a beat from touching his muscles that were firm like steel. 

Vio: It's thanks to you that I was able to focus freely. That's why I forgot about all the pain that I've been holding in... It all ended when I reached the end by running at full speed. Thank you! MC!

MC: Ah... Vio-san. 

While holding me up, Vio-san happily spun around... As my vision was spinning, Vio-san's bright smile stood out the most. 

Vio: I'm in my best mood today!

When Vio-san said that happily, he gently placed me down on the ground. When I looked up, there was Vio-san with an affectionate expression... 

Vio: That's because you're my... 

Just as he was about to continue his words, Vio-san touched my cheek wtih his fingers and looked at me in the eye. His bright eyes looked more beautifully passionate than usual with the moonlight shining on them... 

Vio: Goddess of victory. 

Without any ounce of shame showing on his face, he said that to me. 

(My cheek that Vio-san is touching feels warm...) 

Vio: So, won't you cheer me on forever? As long as I have you with me, I feel that I can run anywhere at any time. With you... I feel that I can do any kind of challenge. 

MC: Vio-san... 

Vio-san's face slowly got closer. Just as he was about to place his lips over mine as I was unable to hold back my fast heartbeat... 

Vio: Well, you don't seem to be refusing. Goddess of victory, you're only mine. 

Vio-san's affectionately strong whisper made me yearn for him. With that heat rising, I was unable to hear the clamoring of the bustling people...
