Chapter 6 - From Nothing to Something

Oswald-san hasn't stopped facing his desk even when it became night. 

Then...

By the time the sun was rising in the sky from the east... 

Oswald: Ah... It's no good!! Even though I know the requirements in bringing forth a rainbow, doing the constant maintenance for it is... 

With bags underneath his eyes from staying up all night, Oswald-san held his head. As I lightly yawned, I placed some tea that I brewed on his desk. 

MC: Is it really impossible? 

Oswald: It's no impossible...! My pride as an engineer won't accept those words. But, the real problem isn't exactly realistic...

MC: What kind of requirements were used to create the rainbow up till now? 

Oswald: It's probably because of the current king's magic. But, he's currently resting due to an illness, so he can't really use magic... ...I know!

MC: Eh? 

just as he shouted that, he suddenly got up from his chair and put down his pen. 

MC: Did you think of something? 

Oswald: Yes, since I can't use magic, I try bringing things to life, but... Don't you think we'll surely be able to consume something even if we don't understand it!? 

MC: Something...

Oswald-san and I looked at each other... 

Chapter 7 - Changing the Idea

To make a rainbow reappear in the sky, Oswald-san continued thinking until night came, but... When it became morning, his eyes were shining unexpectedly. 

Oswald: Even though nothing can be seen from an outsider's point of view, there's something there. Some kind of strange power that we can't see... No, since the mechanisms are hard to understand by looking at it, when the kingdom's people saw my engineering from the start... 

Oswald-san was completely in his own world. 

(Is that somehow... possible?) 

As I supported him internally, I watched him...

Oswald: ...That's it! If there's something we don't understand, then it can't be changed with magic! Coming up with an idea of creating something out of nothing, that's something I've been doing this whole time!

MC: Is that your solution? 

Oswald: That's right, MC-chan! Now then, all that's left to do is to bring that theory into reality!

Even though I couldn't understand what he was thinking... As it felt like Oswald-san was doing some kind of big challenge, I smiled at him to give him support. 

MC: I'll help too. 

Oswald: Please, your support is really promising after all!

After saying that, he gently placed his hand on my shoulder. 

MC: Yes...!

Then, in the completely messy room, he used all his own mechanisms into creating the rainbow that was made with magic to reappear...

As day and night have passed, we were immersed into working. While I was close to him, I helped him as much as I could...

By the time the morning sun was rising in the sky from the east again... 

Oswald: It's finished!!

As Oswald-san's back was basked in the morning sunlight, he raised both of his hands up high. 

MC: ...Yes, finally. 

Both Oswald-san and I were completely exhausted. Although, the sense of accomplishment from completing such a difficult challenge gave me a strange feeling as exhaustion took over my body. 

Oswald: Still... Fuwah... 

As Oswald-san yawned widely, he rubbed his eyes with his fingers. 

Oswald: Mm... Staying up for two nights in a row is diffcult... MC-chan, are you okay? 

MC: I'm... sleepy too... 

Oswald: Okay, there's a bed in the room next door, so go sleep for a bit, there we go. 

MC: Eh!? 

Just as my vision suddenly got higher, my body was being lightly carried by Oswald-san. HIs face was so close by. 

(It's kind of strange... Since I'm so sleepy, it feels so warm in Oswald-san's arms...) 

Oswald: Fufu... Goodnight, MC-chan. 

He sets me down on the bed that was fluffy like feathers. I became engulfed in a relaxing slumber...

Within my distant consciousness, I heard Oswald-san's deep voice faintly. 

Oswald: What a cute... sleeping face... For making such a girl push herself, I'm such a bad man... 

A soft sensation was pressed against my forehead. I didn't know what it was as I became drawn towards sleep. 

Oswald: Sweet dreams... 

Although, I heard him softly whispering that in my ear... As I was sleeping in comfort, I craved for him to stay with me...

Last Chapter - Oswald's Magic

My consciousness that was in a peaceful slumber gradually returned to reality. 

MC: ...Mm... This place is... 

(Come to think of it, I was helping Oswald-san and then...) 

MC: ...!

When I got up from the bed in surprise, I saw stars outside the window. When I looked around, he was nowhere to be seen and I was left alone in the bed that was too big for one person. 

(Where's Oswald-san?) 

At that moment, I noticed that he left a note on top of the desk. On the note that has his likable handwriting on it... 

"Sorry for making you stay up all night with me. I'll be installing the rainbow we made, so come to the courtyard once I'm finished."

The rainbow that Oswald-san made... Not even I have seen how it turned out. 

(I want to hurry and see it...) 

As my heart was beating rapidly, I got dressed and headed to the courtyard. 

Once I've reached the courtyard after passing through the long hallways... It was overflowing with people that were looking up at the sky as each of them were cheering. 

MC: Wow... 

When I looked to where the people's gazes were at, there was a tall pinnacle and past it, a seven-colored rainbow with lots of neon lights was shining brightly. 

MC: This is the rainbow that Oswald-san thought of... 

It was beautiful like a real rainbow and it didn't look like it was going to fade away and disappear, but... All the people that were looking up at the bright sparkly neon rainbow were smiling. 

(Somehow...) 

While looking at the odd rainbow, I broke into a smile as well. 

Oswald: What do you think of the rainbow we've made? Isn't it beautiful? 

MC: Ah, Oswald-san. 

When I turned towards that voice, he held the hem of his hat and smiled defiantly. 

Oswald: Well, it's a little bit flashy, but now there won't be anything wrong about the rainbow disappearing. 

MC: Yes. It makes it feel like we're in an adult town. 

When I slightly made a wry smile, he turned towards me and spoke as he smiled. 

Oswald: It does feel that way since this rainbow won't show during the daytime. But, the people of this kingdom think of it as a very magical rainbow. Right, MC-chan? 

MC: ...!

Just as he held my waist with his long arm, I quickly looked up at him. 

MC: U-Um!? 

We looked at each other as he made a somewhat likable smile. As his pale blue-green eyes were looking at me... 

Oswald: ...What is it? Isn't this what you meant by an adult town? 

He looked down at me with a mischievous smile. 

MC: O-Oswald-san...

Within the distance where our breaths could touch, my heartbeat became fast... Then, the next moment, his pale lips got closer to mine... 

MC: Ah...

Oswald: ...Mm... 

The slightly shrewd kiss snatched my lips away as if they were stealing a piece of treasure. When his lips slid against mine and reached to the end of them, he slowly backed away... 

MC: ......

Oswald: Fufu, your cute face turning red is so charming. 

As I felt heat increasing in my cheeks, he poked me teasingly. 

Oswald: But, thanks to you being such a hard worker, I was able to look upon myself. Just now was my way of showing my gratitude. 

MC: The kiss was...? 

Oswald: Yep, I'll do it as many times as you want... How about it? 

He traced my lips that he just kissed with his finger. The ticklish sensation made me shake my head frantically. 

MC: I-I'm good... 

I looked away from his cunning self. Although, I was unable to look away as the flashy neon lights shined on the bridge of his nicely shaped nose. Just like how the people were looking at the rainbow he created... 

(The Wizard... of Oz.) 

Those words went through my head. I was unsure if what was casted on me could've been his magic of love. Right now, that magic captivated me completely...
