Patil - Prince of Farber - Sun End

Chapter 6 - You're My...

Before I knew it, I was in Patil's warm arms...

MC: Um, Patil...?

Patil: ...Haa.

Just as I spoke nervously, he let out an exasperated sigh over my head.

Patil: ...Just sleep. You're making a bad face.

MC: A-A bad face.

Patil They say that you can't do anything without getting a wink of sleep.

MC: ...That's...

Patil: Aren't you my assistant? I won't allow it if you nod off in the middle of an experiment.

MC: ...!

Given our conversation yesterday, I couldn't tell what Patil was thinking... Although, what he just said has instantly made the heavy depressing feeling turn lighter.

(At least until the founding festival... I want to stay like this.)

With somewhat wishful feelings, I slowly lowered my eyelids.

......

??: ...That is quite a bad face.

(...?)

Someone's fingers were gently caressing my cheek.

Patil: Isn't it because... both Simon and you are such fools?

(...Patil?)

Patil: ...Just smile.

MC: ...

Before I could question the meaning behind those words... My consciousness fell into a deep slumber once again...

Chapter 7 - A Secret Romance

Then, after a while... Once Patil checked all the materials that were assembled on top of the worktable, he nodded.

Patil: Alright, let's begin.

MC: ...Yes.

I nodded while feeling a little nervous.

(Just 3 more days until the founding festival...)

After making careful preparations with the gathered materials... Today was finally the day we'll complete making a prototype of the ink.

Patil: ...

Patil continued carefully, but skillfully worked with his hands. While I was helping him out by checking the formula.

......

Patil: ...It's done.

MC: !

I suddenly looked up after Patil said that. But...

Patil: ...

MC: ...Patil?

Patil didn't move as he stood still in front of the worktable.

(...It can't be.)

When I looked at what was in Patil's hand from behind, I became speechless.

-Flashback-

Patil: "I can't express my feelings towards you in words. Even so, let me express it all with this color. This is my heart."

-Flashback-

(But, this color is...)

Over there was a faint sepia-colored liquid.

Patil: ...

Patil silently dipped the edge of a pen in the ink and drew a line on some paper.

Patil: ...It has the same color as it's looks. It's no different than any ordinary ink.

MC: ...

(Is this really Simon-san's ink...?)

Patil: ...I see. So, that's how it is.

MC: Eh?

Patil narrowed his eyes as he looked at the sepia-colored ink.

Patil: Hey. Help me out for a bit longer.

......

MC: ...Will this do?

Patil: Yeah.

When I closed the curtains all around, Patil seemed to be almost done with his own work. In his hands, there was a candle an da small dish with a small piece of paper in it.

MC: This is?

Patil: It'll be faster to show you instead of just explaining it.

Patil tilted the candle and set the piece of paper on fire.

MC: ...!

The next moment, I gasped... when "colors" appeared over there. I recalled those words in my mind.

-Flashback-

Patil: "Let your eyes see the flames that flare up from my love to you."

-Flashback-

It was a small aurora. The beautiful flames that were swaying... It was like a burning rainbow or some kind of bright kaleidoscope.

Patil: ...This paper was soaked in Simon's ink.

That's when I finally remembered the experiment that Patil showed me before.

(...A flame reaction?)

MC: But, why...

Patil: Didn't I tell you? Their social statuses were too different from each other's. ...They would've been in danger if these letters remained in their hands. During their time, it wouldn't seem strange for the both of them to have gotten the death penalty if they got caught.

(Even so, Simon-san continued sending letters...)

Patil: Despite being a letter, didn't the contents make it more like a love letter? ...It's just that it would've been better if they were burned.

Because of the feelings he put into words, it would've increased the danger if anyone questioned it.

(I... guess so.)

The feelings that were put into words were even giving my heart a burning warmth...

Patil: "I can't express my feelings towards you in words. Even so, let me express it all with this color." ...You sure did, Simon.

MC: ...

When the swaying flames became a little bit smaller, it then burned out. As I felt a tear about to fall, I continued to watch it sway.

Last Chapter - A World with You

While looking at the swaying flames, Patil softly murmured.

-Flashback-

Patil: "I can't express my feelings towards you in words. Even so, let me express it all with this color." ...You sure did, Simon.

-Flashback-

MC: ...

The rainbow-colored flame slowly burned out. After seeing it off, Patil opened the curtains.

MC: ...You really are amazing, Patil. You actually succeeded.

Patil: It's nothing really, no one else has been able to reproduce it until now. That's only because they never realized it.

MC: That's amazing. How did you know?

Patil: How, you say...

After Patil widened his eyes a little in surprise... He smiled with a somewhat mature expression.

Patil: ...Isn't it because I was an idiot like Simon?

MC: Eh?

Patil: Thank you. Thanks to you, I'm free.

MC: ...Patil?

Patil quickly left the workshop, so that he could hurry and report to the king.

(What was that just now...)

I couldn't clearly understand the reason or cause behind the uncomfortable feeling that I'm getting. Although, just as I noticed that Patil has gotten farther away... I couldn't move from there for a while.

......

Then, on the day of the founding festival...

(Somehow, ever since that day... It feels like Patil has been avoiding me.)

After succeeding in reproducing Simon's ink, the king withdrawn the topic about the marriage interview. Although, since then, Patil has been shutting himself in his workshop this whole time...

-Flashback-

Patil: If you have any spare time, would you like to see it? The kingdom's founding festival... There should be some merit in seeing my fireworks.

-Flashback-

MC: ...

While I was lost in thought, I pounded on the door to the workshop. Although, there was no one inside.

(Where could he be...)

Right at that moment, I heard fireworks going off in the distance.

(The fireworks... I know.)

......

Patil: ...

When I found him all alone at the balcony from behind, I sighed in relief.

Patil: ...You, you didn't go out?

When he noticed me, Patil made a bit of a surprised look.

MC: Yes. What about you, Patil?

Patil: I don't really like crowds. Seeing them from here is good enough for me.

MC: ...Can I watch them with you?

Patil: I don't mind, go ahead...

MC: Thank you... Ah!

At that moment, a big firework went up during the sequence.

MC: Wow...

Forgetting about the awkward moment just now, I got absorbed in watching the sight in front of me. As Patil rested his chin on the handrail, he softly murmured.

Patil: Watch the final firework closely.

MC: Eh?

Just as I was about to ask him what he meant by that... A bright rainbow light was downpouring in front of me.

(This is... Simon-san's?)

Just like a burning rainbow and a bright kaleidoscope... The beautiful color that I saw at that time brightened up the night sky with particles of light.

Patil: ...The adjustments were hard, but I managed to make one in the end.

MC: Could it be that the reason you were cooped up in your workshop this whole time was...

Patil: ...

Patil's eyelashes went down as he smiled.

Patil: I thought that you were going to see these fireworks with someone else.

MC: Eh?

Patil: Just imagining it made me furious to death... But, as long as it makes you smile, that's enough for me.

(That's...)

When he held my hand that was shaking, Patil looked directly back at me.

MC: ...I wanted to see them with you this whole time.

Patil: Eh?

MC: ...It can't be anyone else. The one I like is Patil.

Patil: ...

As if he's suddenly losing strength, Patil went down on one knee.

Patil: No way... You must be mistaken.

MC: B-But. There's no one else that I like besides you, Patil...

When Patil slowly looked up...

The air around him changed as he straightened himself up.

Patil: I didn't know... Until I met you.

MC: ...Patil?

While touching me as if I'm something fragile, Patil softly placed his hand on his own chest.

Patil: I love you. Ever since I met you, the color of the world has changed. Like the flowers on the roadside and the bright sky... Even though there's nothing different about them, they looked more beautiful than before.

When he made a straightforward and gentle smile... My heartbeat became painfully fast.

Patil: I love you... That's what makes my face turn red instantly.

MC: Patil...

Patil: Hey, you... You said so, right? You said that there's no one else, but me.

As the moonlight was shining on his back, Patil slowly got up...

MC: ...!

Just as I widened my eyes... I felt the soft sensation of his lips on my forehead.

Patil: Even if you say that there's someone else that you prefer, I'll make you take back those words. Stay by my side.

MC: ...Okay.

When I nodded, he gently placed his hand on my cheek. As I was drawn towards the warmth of his lips that were on mine... I slowly closed my eyes...
