Patil - Prince of Farber - Moon End

Chapter 6 - Just a Little Bit More

The cloth against my cheek had Patil's scent on it...

MC: ...!

When Patil hung over me at that moment, I stiffened up.

Patil: ...Instead of the blanket.

MC: Eh?

Patil: You're my assistant, right? You're here, so I won't catch a cold.

At the end of that sentence, he fell asleep.

(H-He actually fell asleep...)

MC: ...

Just as I was given the chance to slip out from his arms, there was no sign of him letting go.

Patil: ...

I looked at his defenseless sleeping face.

(...I'm sure that it's just my heart that's beating like this. I'm a little sad, but...)

As we were close like this, I became filled with happiness.

MC: ...I'm fine with staying like this.

When I placed my forehead against his chest, I closed my eyes.

The comforting darkness took over my consciousness.

......

MC: ...Achoo!

(For some reason... I'm cold...)

??: ...MC?

When I heard a voice from afar, I woke up from my slumber.

Patil: Don't fall asleep.

MC: O... kay...

(Just now... I noticed Patil's gentle smile... I wonder... if I'm dreaming.)

As my entire body succumbed to the warmth around me, I fell asleep...

Chapter 7 - The Secret Behind the Ink

A few days later... With the deadline approaching, Patil's research was in it's final stage.

(MC: Just 3 more days until the founding festival...

(Time just went by so quickly somehow.)

After gathering the needed ingredients, they were carefully arranged... Today will be the last day of completing the prototype ink.

Patil: Now then, let's begin.

When Patil announced that, he sounded a little strained.

(...Let's make this work.)

For the ink that's different than the usual kind, many ingredients were mixed together. I helped with Patil's work by checking to see if the amounts and order were right.

......

Patil: ...That does it.

Patil wiped his forehead with his cuff. I looked up after he said that. Although...

Patil: ...

MC: ...Patil?

Even though the ink was complete, Patil didn't react much. As I was feeling nervous, I looked at what was in his hand.

(Ah...)

Patil: ...This is Simon's ink?

-Flashback-

Patil: "I can't express my feelings towards you in words. Even so, let me express it all with this color. This is my heart."

-Flashback-

I recalled the words that I heard from Patil.

(But, this color is...)

In his hand, there was a faint dark, brown-colored liquid.

(...A sepia color?)

Aside from it being ink, there was nothing unusual about it and was just a common color.

Patil: ...A failure.

Patil made a small self-mocking smile.

(No way...)

MC: Is the ink really this color...

Patil: If so, would you accept it?

MC: ...

Patil: ...Even though I tried to fix it, the results remained the same. It's my loss.

MC: But...

Then, I sat next to Patil.

(I wonder if this is really a failure...)

I picked up the recipe and looked at it again.

(A romance between people of different social statuses... Despite what the letter says, I'm sure that it must have been pretty troubling.)

"Even so, let me express it all with this color. This is my heart."

MC: Since the words aren't showing it, could he be sending it with the color...?

When I thought of that, I became bothered by something.

Patil: ...What? What's wrong?

Patil looked at me with a tired expression.

MC: The ink that Simon used to write the letter with... Currently, there's none of it remaining, right?

Patil: ...Yeah. According to the young woman that received them, she didn't have any of it either. When it got exposed, there was nothing strange when both of them received the death penalty.

Since his kind words were shown clearly, it put the other in danger.

(Even so, Simon continued sending letters... That's...)

I came up with a solution in my head.

Patil: Let's end things today... Sorry for making you do this.

Just as Patil got up, I grabbed the hem of his clothes.

MC: ...Patil. There's just one thing that I want to try to experiment.

......

After pulling the curtains in the workshop, the lights were turned off.

Patil: I did what you said, but... Just what are you going to do?

As Patil made a puzzled expression, I responded with a vague smile.

(I may not have any conclusive evidence. But, if my guess is right...)

MC: ...

When I put some of Simon's ink on paper, I placed it on top of a plate. I held a candle towards it and lightly set it on fire.

Patil: This is...

Patil gasped nearby. I was speechless by the magical scent in front of me...

Last Chapter - Just for You Someday

The flame made a magical color flare up...

Patil: This is...

Patil gasped nearby.

MC: "Let your eyes see the flames that flare up from my love to you."... So, it was this kind of color.

The candle's flame changed color one at a time. It was like a small aurora. Like a rainbow of flames... Beautiful seven colors were dancing like a kaleidoscope in the light.

(How pretty...)

Patil: I see, a flame reaction... That's why there were so many ingredients...

MC: That's good, Patil. It's a success.

Patil: Y-Yeah... But, how did you know? This is "ink that was made to be burned".

MC: ...It's because you said that not a single sheet of the letters was left behind.

(I'm sure that they were all burned after being read...)

More importantly, he wrote down his feelings to get them across despite it all put them in danger when it was found out.

(Even so, he wished for his feelings to get through to her.)

As I looked at the swaying flame, I softly held it in my hand.

(I have to say it properly. The person I love is...)

Patil: ...No more.

MC: ...!?

When Patil said that, he hugged me.

Patil: Do you really like that kind of guy?

MC: Eh?

Patil: Stop it. Seeing you make that sort of pained expression is enough... for me... to fall for you.

At that moment, I couldn't understand what he just said.

Patil: Become mine... MC.

He sounded like he was deeply in pain... I gently wrapped my hands around his back.

MC: The one I love is... you.

Patil: ...Huh?

We looked at each other from a close distance.

Patil: ...Why?

MC: W-Why, you say.

Patil: Besides, I didn't do anything to make you love me. It's strange.

As I looked at Patil say that with a straight face, I broke into a smile.

Patil: Hey. I'm serious...

MC: I love you.

Patil: ...

MC: That part of you is what I love about you.

Patil: ...I don't get it.

Patil placed his forehead against mine.

As his eyes were hidden, the beautiful flame burned...

......

On the day of the founding festival... The streets were filled with excitement with all sorts of confetti dancing around.

MC: Patil, are you okay? You seem to be shaking.

Patil: ...It's been a while since I've been to town, so it's a little bright for me. Rather, you've been looking at the festival more than me. Despite that we came all the way here.

Even though he said that with hatred, he softly pulled my hand through the crowd of people. I became completely used to his odd behavior...

MC: The restaurant earlier was good.

After having a quick meal at a restaurant, we were about to head back to the castle as the comforting nightly breeze blew.

Patil: What you chose properly was okay... Ah.

He stopped when a loud sound was heard. A large flower of light slowly bloomed in the night sky.

MC: The fireworks have started.

People that were walking down the road stopped and looked up at the sky.

Townsperson 1: The fireworks have become prettier again this year.

Townsperson 2: They sure have.

(That's good. Everyone's enjoying themselves.)

As drops of light fell, they disappeared in the night sky.

(The secret behind Simon's ink wasn't a "profit" in the end, but...)

The prince of Farber knowing the truth behind the romantic story made me feel like smiling.

-Flashback-

Patil: I've been told, "it looks like there's no need for you to go through with the marriage interview anymore".

-Flashback-

Ever since Patil has returned from having an audience with the king, he's been tilting his head to the side frequently.

(...I'm sure that all sorts of things have happened due to love.)

When I thought of that...

I suddenly felt a warm sensation against my lips.

Patil: ...You were open.

MC: ...!

I widened my eyes in surprise. My cheeks gradually became warm.

MC: ...There are people here.

I glared at Patil as he made a composed expression...

Patil: No one is looking because they're all focused on the fireworks. Also, you're the one who was bad for being careless.

MC: ...Can we watch them?

Patil: Hmm. Well, fine... Someday, I'll show you something.

MC: Eh?

Patil: ...

He whispered in my ear.

Patil: Aside from Simon's flame, it'll be an even more beautiful color.

(Aside from Simon's flame... Does he mean...)

When I understood what he meant, a warm happiness began to form within my heart.

MC: ...Okay.

I leaned against Patil's shoulder. These indescribable feelings slightly got across along with this warmth...

MC: I'm looking forward to it.

Patil: ...Hmph.

Remarkably huge fireworks went up. While everyone was looking up at those bright lights... We kissed again...
