Chapter 7 - The Smile That Remains in the Mind

As I can hear the nightly breeze making the leaves rustle from the open window... Just as I was about to go to sleep, Ruber-san silently left the guest room a little while before. 

(Even though I'm tired, I can't sleep for some reason...) 

I looked at the white coat that I failed to return as I was sitting on the edge of the bed.

Ruber: ...Haha... You really are weird. I've been called scary many times, but... That's the first time I've been told something like that straight to my face.

The smile that Ruber-san made earlier still remains in my mind even now... 

(It'd be nice if he always smiles like that.) 

As I thought about him, I became unable to sleep even more. 

(I'll go take a walk in the castle courtyard for a bit.) 

When I made up my mind, I quietly left the guest room... 

Chapter 8 - Knowing About the Conflict

As lamps were lit up here and there, the castle's majestic appearance rose... When I looked up at the vast starry sky, I walked into the castle courtyard and... 

Ruber: ...

I saw Ruber-san sitting on the edge of the bright water fountain in the darkness. As he was looking up at the night sky by himself, it somehow felt like he didn't want anyone to approach him, but... 

MC: What are you doing at this hour? 

When I called out to him boldly, Ruber-san turned towards me calmly. 

Ruber: Same goes for you. You're doing the same thing. If you don't rest properly, your body will collapse. 

MC: The same goes for you as well. 

Like during the daytime, I was happy to be able to connect with his understandable attitude that I ended up smiling. Then, Ruber-san suddenly grabbed my wrist. 

MC: ...!

The next moment, I became imprisoned in his robust arms. 

Ruber: A woman shouldn't be walking this late outside. Something like that is what scares me. 

MC: ...!

When his teasing whisper tickled my ear, I felt warmth gathering in my cheeks. 

MC: There's no need to be scared, Ruber-san. 

When I somehow responded vexingly, Ruer-san looked at me amusedly. 

Ruber: Saying something like that will make a man misunderstand. 

(Misunderstand... Huh.) 

My fast heartbeat made it feel like a new emotion was sprouting within me. Even so, I was unable to take such a blunt response and turned away... 

Ruber: ...Earlier, I received a scolding from the king. 

I heard him murmur that. 

MC: A scolding? Why...? 

Ruber: It seems like someone has told him about my involvement in giving medical treatment in town and giving aid at the mining incident. I'm strictly prohibited from giving medical treatment to the townspeople unless I have the royal family's permission. 

MC: ...Why would they have a rule like that? 

As I was unable to understand and looked up at him, Ruber-san sighed with mixed feelings. 

Ruber: Somehow, I don't know all the details that established it. Although, if I think about it clearly, it's probably for the kingdom. Considering the current state of the system, the kingdom won't be able to stand if all the people are medically examined equally. I understand that it's unagreeable. Yet, I... 

Crushed by agony, he stopped his words there. From his expression, I could feel his intense complications. 

(I wonder if there's something I could do to help him...) 

With uneasiness holding me, I softly placed my head against his chest. Then, he slightly puts more strength into his arms that were around my back... 

Ruber: MC. You, who came from outside of the kingdom, I want to hear your honest opinion... Do you think I'm wrong? 

Along with his calm questioning voice, a cold nightly breeze touched my cheek... 

Chapter 9 - Overflowing Feelings

When he asked me that question, a ripple was made in my heart...

Ruber: MC. You, who came from outside of the kingdom, I want to hear your honest opinion... Do you think I'm wrong?

(How should I respond?) 

Not wanting to say a rash opinion, I thought about it earnestly. Then, what occurred to me was Ruber-san seriously helping his patients at any time. 

MC: Whether that it's right or wrong... It's really hard to think about. But, I want to stick with your beliefs somehow. 

Ruber: Why do you think that? 

MC: It's because I like your straightforward beliefs. 

With kindness overflowing in the words that I said so naturally, my cheeks suddenly became warm. 

(I, just now...) 

When I nervously took a glance at Ruber-san, his eyes blinked in surprise. 

Ruber: ...Are you charmed by me? 

MC: ...!

My heart throbbed in pain from such a frank response. I immediately turned my face away, but I was unable to escape when Ruber-san's fingers raise my chin up. 

Ruber: Your face is awfully red. 

MC: ...Please don't look at me. 

When I said that in embarrassment while trembling, Ruber-san slowly lets go of me. The intense questioning made me feel a little complicated as I casted my eyes down...

Ruber: Beliefs, huh...

Along with murmuring those single words, Ruber-san slowly got up. 

Ruber: Things like this is making me want to go traveling again... I changed my mind. 

MC: Eh...? 

Ruber: It's thanks to you that I have opened my eyes. Thinking whether it's right or wrong is a waste of time. It's not clever of me to live by ignoring my beliefs. 

A gust of wind made his red tinged black hair sway. 

Ruber: As a doctor and as a prince of this kingdom... I'm going to use all my strength to fight. 

With the moon in the background, his eyes shined beautifully like fresh green leaves as he smiled... 

Last Chapter - Sweet Contact

After some time has passed since I've arrived in Remedium... While Ruber-san was settling the problems in his kingdom, he has been busy as the days went by. 

(The servants from before were surprised and said, "to think that Ruber-sama is working at the desk and not just at the sites." All of the town doctors' labor conditions have improved and the medicine trade has been enhanced... Ruber-san, he's really working hard.) 

Even though he hates dealing with that sort of thing, he's been putting in the effort to help the kingdom. So, I stopped by Remedium again. 

(Despite the difficult journey, I'm sure that Ruber-san's hard work will bring in results.) 

MC: Ruber-san. I'm coming in. 

After I called out to him in front of the door, I took a step into his office and... 

Ruber: ...Those flowers are? 

When Ruber-san looked away from the pile of paperwork, he saw the flowers that were in my hands. 

MC: I received them in town. I thought that they would put you at ease a little. 

Just as I was about to place the flower vase in a sunny spot at the window, Ruber-san got up from his chair and walked towards me. 

(Ruber-san...?) 

Before I could turn around, I felt him leaning down... 

Ruber: This isn't bad... Doing something like this with you by my side puts me at ease. 

MC: Eh...? 

Ruber: Don't you understand? I'm saying that you're better than the flowers. 

When he whispered that in my ear, my heartbeat instantly became fast. 

Ruber: If you're going to town, call me. I'll make up some time for that. 

MC: ...Let's do that next time. 

Ruber: It's good that you understand. 

As I was unable to figure out Ruber-san's true intentions when he made a satisfied nod, I looked at him. 

(He wants to spend time with me... I wonder if that's what he's thinking of.)

Ruber: By the way, how long are you going to stay in this kingdom?

MC: If I'm being a bother, I can go kill some time right now... 

Just as my shoulders stiffened up, Ruber-san shook his head frustratedly.

When he placed a kiss against my forehead, I almost dropped the flower vase.

As he smiled, he placed one of his hands on my cheek.

When I twisted around from being ticklish as a response, Ruber-san watched me in amusement. As I had a hunch that he is going to toy with me from here on, I became intoxicated by the sweet contact...
