Chapter 6 - Resisting Envy

Vedy: Wha... Y-You guys... 

MC: ! Vedy-kun...!? 

-Flashback-

A few days later since I've hung out with Vedy-kun and Cero-san... I was looking at the courtyard that was shrouded with a gloomy mist from the castle hallway. 

MC: ...

Ever since Vedy-kun saw Cero-san confessing to me, the distance between us became stiff. Like this morning in the hallway...

MC: Um... Good morning, Vedy-kun. 

Vedy: Huh? Don't talk to me, stupid!

-Flashback-

As I remembered how Vedy-kun ran off so quickly, I felt a sharp pain in my heart. 

MC: Ah... 

Vedy-kun was walking over here.

Just as I turned around as I thought of that... 

Vedy: Hey! Who said that you can do whatever you want!? Look at me properly!

When I turned towards Vedy-kun's sharp tone, he looked at me grumpily.

MC: ... 

After he stood in front of me for a while... He turned around and left without saying anything.

Chapter 7 - A Ferocious Envy

A few days later since the bond between me and Vedy-kun became stiff... The day for me to leave the kingdom was tomorrow.

Vedy: ...Shut up...

Vedy-kun said that as if he was about to raise his voice. From his feet, there was a purple mist rising. 

Vedy: Suddenly visiting and leaving in the end... I don't get it! Why didn't you tell me!? You... Just do what you want and leave!!

MC: Eh, Vedy-kun!? 

After he shouted that, he pushed me out of the room. 

(No way...) 

With the door slammed shut, his rejection gave me pain...

Vedy kicked the chair in irritation.

After Vedy murmured that, he looked outside the window... 

In the skies of Votaria, the thick fog was brooding over it as usual... 

Last Chapter - Envy Going Out of Control

As my gaze was on the window, night was starting to come. 

(I should probably leave soon...) 

When I shook off my hesitation, I finished packing and picked up my luggage. Although... 

??: Big trouble!! He's on a rampage again, just like that time!

??: What!? Hurry and call for only the top classed magic users!!

I quickly left the room after hearing the disturbance outside the door. 

MC: !? 

(This is!?)

On the floor, people were down as there was an ominous purple smoke around the area. 

MC: What just happened!? 

Maid: Traumerei Princess... Please hurry and get away. You mustn't let the poisonous air of envy get to you... 

MC: Please calm down!

The maid turned pale and collapsed. 

(Poisonous air of envy? Could it be...) 

When I got a bad feeling at that moment, I ran off as the purple smoke was drifting. 

Then, the number of people collapsing was slowly increasing... Among the purple smoke, I saw a silhouette of someone leaning against the corner of the corridor. When I took a closer look, it was... 

MC: Vedy-kun!? 

After I called out to him, he made an anguished expression and stepped away from me. 

Vedy: No... Don't come near me!! This poisonous air... I can't stop it...!

At that moment, I remembered what he said to me before.

Vedy: ...MC... G-GUAAAaaAAaaahhhh!!

After he screamed, he lost consciousness. Then... The purple smoke vanished soon after...

After the remnants of the castle took Vedy-kun to his bedroom... 

I was waiting in the guest room until he regained consciousness. From what the servants told me, the circumstances with the damages in the castle was under control and all the small stuff was taken care of. Although... 

(I wonder if Vedy-kun is okay. Including the people who have collapsed... Still, how come I didn't get affected by the poisonous air like the others...?) 

I thought about it as I was sitting on the sofa... 

Butler: MC-sama, Vedy-sama has regained consciousness. 

MC: Eh...!? 

When the butler told me that, I quickly got up from the sofa. Then, just as I was about to head out the door... 

Vedy: ... 

As soon as I opened the door, Vedy-kun was standing there with a pale face right in front of me... After seeing that, the butler quietly left. 

MC: V-Vedy-kun? Is it all right for you to be out!?

Vedy: Yeah. I'm just tired from using that power... Also, sorry...

Vedy: I, I was thinking about you and Cero getting along... and earlier, I was thinking about you guys holding hands while walking... I was thinking of all sorts of things... Then, it made me go crazy... That's why, I did whatever I could to hate you...

Vedy: ... 

Vedy-kun hung his head down and became silent. Although, after some time, he raised his head and spoke again. 

Vedy: I didn't want to trouble you at all. But, by doing that, I became unable to contain my power of envy... 

When he said that, he made a frustrated look. 

Vedy: You really should hurry and leave! I can't let you stay with someone dangerous like me!!

MC: ......

Seeing him biting his lip with a pale face was crushing my heart. Then... 

Vedy: ...Thank you for everything up till now. 

After he murmured that as his voice sounded like it was about to disappear, he turned his back on me. At that moment, I... 

Vedy: ...! MC...? S-Stop! I'll be fine... I'll just put up with these feelings and forget about them...!

Vedy-kun's back trembled a little as he said that. Seeing him trying to part from me made me hug him tighter in my arms. 

Vedy: Please... I'm fine as long as you're happy! If you stay with me like this, I'll... end up using that power on you someday... 

MC: That won't happen. 

Vedy: Eh...? 

MC: Besides, aren't I fine even after being in that smoke? Also, you're wrong, Vedy-kun. 

I bit my lip tightly after saying that. Then, when I took a deep breath...

Vedy: ...!!

When I told him how I felt shakily, he turned towards me with a surprised look.

Vedy: ...!! Are you... really okay with me?

When he hesitantly asked me that, I gave him a firm nod and... He made a relieved expression and hugged me. As I was in his warm arms, it felt like he was conveying his feelings to me...
