Chapter 6 - Runaway Gear

In the town of Fairberg*, the silent veil of night has descended... Where I was staying, Toto-kun came along. 

T/N: Hinata's kingdom

MC: Thank you for escorting me. 

Toto: It's my duty to protect Master after all. 

Toto-kun responded with his chest puffed out proudly... When he moved his gaze around uneasily soon after, I assumed that he didn't want to leave. 

(What should I do...) 

Toto: Hey, why am I not allowed to sleep in Master's room? 

MC: Uh... That's because there's only one bed in the room... 

Toto: I'm fine with sleeping on the floor. 

Not having a problem with that, Toto-kun looked at me brightly. 

MC: If you do that, you'll catch a cold. Toto-kun, you should go to your own room-

Toto: Then, shall we sleep in the same bed? I want to be beside you and warm you up, so that you won't get cold. 

MC: Toto-kun... 

Just as I was about to give into him... Suddenly, the toy part jumped out of Toto-kun's pocket. 

MC: Toto-kun, the gear... 

The gear that the toy couldn't be fixed with, it was lightly rolling around as if it had a mind of it's own. 

Toto: Ah...! Wait!

(What's happening...?) 

In bewilderment, we went after the gear... 

Chapter 7 - A Locomotive Running Through the Night

In the silent town of Fairberg, our footsteps echoed... 

(There's no one around... Even though it was so lively with people making preparations during the way, why?) 

On the path that had the scent of the gear that Toto-kun was tracking down, we continued to follow the toy part in the quiet street at night. 

Toto: Master, over here...!

As I was following him from behind... We stepped into the venue of the Toy Market before we knew it. 

Toto: Found it! Master, over there...!

Looking to where Toto-kun was pointing at, there was the toy that we left... Strangely, that toy was moving by itself as it picked up the gear and placed it in it's head.

MC: Eh... 

Just as I widened my eyes in surprise... We saw all the toys in the venue getting up at the same time and moving around merrily. 

(This is... All the toys that have gathered in the Toy Market are moving?)

As we watched the venue in a daze, the toy that we left toddled over here. From the toy's comical movements, it looked as if it was telling us to put the gear back to it's original spot. 

Toto: I see... This gear holds some memories too. Such important memories, I'm sorry that I broke you. 

When Toto-kun's shoulders dropped sadly, the toy held up both of it's arms as if it was telling us something. 

MC: It seems like it's telling you not to worry about it. 

Toto: ...Hehe. 

Toto-kun became relieved and made an innocent smile. 

MC: Because you were concerned about finding an owner for this toy... Don't you think that spending time with you might've become another precious memory for the toy? 

Then, the toy used it's entire body to move it's head up and down as if it was agreeing to what I said. 

Toto: ...Our memories too? 

When Toto-kun smiled softly, he gently petted the toy's head. While watching the pleasant scene, the toys around us looked up at the sky...

MC: Wow...!

When I looked up at the night sky, the tin locomotive came down from the sky of countless stars. 

Toto: Isn't that the locomotive that brought you here? 

MC: Yes. So it can fly in the sky too... 

Just as the locomotive stopped and opened it's doors, the toys got on one after another. While watching with great interest, the toy that we left beckoned to Toto-kun. 

Toto: It seems like it's telling us to get on too. 

MC: ...What should we do? 

Toto: Let's go, Master!

With a strong gaze, Toto-kun held his hand out to me. 

Toto: I'll be with you, so if anything happens, it'll be okay. 

MC: Okay...!

When I took Toto-kun's hand, we got on the locomotive that was heading to a night filled with toys... 

Last Chapter - Forever by Your Side

While looking through the window in the locomotive, the sky was entirely filled with twinkling stars... Looking at the clear starry sky and the nightly view of Fairberg, the beautiful scene made me sigh admiringly.

Female Receptionist: Many toys receive a reward at night for all their hard work. That's why I'm glad that it made it on time. 

-Flashback-

(I wonder if this is the reward at night.) 

MC: Since you've been working hard as well, the toy invited you. 

Toto: ...

MC: Toto-kun...? 

Compared to the toys that were enjoying themselves on the locomotive, Toto-kun was making a melancholic expression. 

Toto: The toys here have parted from their owners... Tomorrow, they'll be going to new owners. ...I wonder if they got lonely after parting from their owners. 

Toto-kun looked at the toys as he said that sadly. 

MC: I don't think these toys get put up in the Toy Market because their owners don't need them anymore. There are all sorts of reasons why they've decided to let them go. 

(If they really didn't need them, then they wouldn't put them up in the market...) 

Toto: Reasons...?

MC: Like the toy you left there, don't some of them have long "lives" too? All the memories within them are an important part of them, so wouldn't they want to be handed over to owners that'll take care of them? 

Toto: Is that... something to be happy about? 

The toys that were riding the locomotive were moving their bodies around happily and merrily. That was the conclusion I believed in from looking at them. 

MC: These toys know that they were loved by their owners. Isn't that why they're able to move on to the next person that'll love them? 

Toto: ... 

After silently listening to me while sitting next to me, Toto-kun leaned forward... 

He held my arm with both hands and leaned closer as if he was curling up.

Toto: I have lots of fun memories with Master too! That's why I know that master is... someone important to me. 

When Toto-kun said those straightforward words with a serious gaze, my heart skipped a beat. 

MC: Yes. It makes me happy that you said that, Toto-kun. 

When I smiled gently, Toto-kun increased his grip in his hands that were holding my arm. 

Toto: I know that Master loves me, you should know that too, Master. ...That's why, I don't think it'll be good if you end up disappearing in front of me someday.

MC: ...!

Surprised by his desperate emotions as he said that sadly, I gasped. 

Toto: I don't want that! I'll love you, so stay with me forever...!! Master... Don't go anywhere. Don't leave me by myself. 

MC: Toto-kun... 

Noticing that his hands were trembling a little, I placed my hand on them. 

Toto: I don't want to part from Master! You're my one and only Master. No matter what... Stay by my side forever. Please... 

When he said that tearfully at that moment, I reached out towards his head and gently petted him. Reassuring him a little, my fingers ran through his soft hair repeatedly. 

MC: Don't worry. I'll stay by your side forever, Toto-kun. I would never think about leaving you. 

When I smiled gently, Toto-un finally made a relieved expression. 

Toto: Thank goodness... Master... Stay with me, forever and ever.

After whispering that pleadingly, Toto-kun softly cuddled up to me. Even if he was just looking for some comfort, the way we were cuddled up felt just right and very lovingly warm...
