Chapter 5 - Moping in the Room

A few days later ever since Lucien-san called for Adiel-kun...

I haven't seen him since then.  

(Before, he would come see me every day...) 

Feeling a little sad and worried, I asked about him to the first person I saw in the castle hallway. 

Maid: Come to think of it, I heard that he's been feeling down this whole time. 

MC: Eh...? 

After thanking that person, I headed straight to Adiel-kun's room. 

(Adiel-kun... I wonder what's wrong.) 

Once I've gathered up my courage and knocked on the door, it opened as Adiel-kun showed himself soon after. 

MC: Adiel-kun, um...

Adiel: ...

Adiel had a sad depressed look in his eyes. 

MC: ...Did something happen? 

Adiel: I...

With a soft tone, Adiel-kun ended his words there. 

MC: Adiel-ku-

The moment I gently touched his arm. 

Adiel: ...MC!

Adiel-kun pulled me towards his chest and strongly hugged me. 

(...Eh...?) 

Due to the sudden action, I couldn't think of anything... I was only surprised from feeling his warmth and loud heartbeat against my cheek. 

(Just what happened?) 

Adiel: ...MC. 

When I stirred around, Adiel-kun held me tighter. 

(Just what's wrong?) 

As he held me, my heart cannot help, but become noisy... 

Last Chapter - Lucien's Change

Adiel: ...MC! 

Adiel-kun strongly hugged me... As he was hugging me... I softy placed my hands on his back. 

Adiel: ...Sorry. 

After a while, Adiel-kun softly murmured that. 

Adiel: If I see your face... I feel like I might explode... Yeah, I'm okay now. 

When he slowly releases me, his complexion turned pale. 

Adiel: Somehow, my mind was going in circles so much that my head became strange... 

Looking exhausted, Adiel-kun sat down on the edge of the bed. The bed springs made a squeaking sound.

MC: ...Did something happen? 

When his shoulders dropped at that moment, I felt worried and sat down next to him. I had an idea on what it was though. 

(I'm sure that the person that made Adiel-kun upset is...) 

Adiel: Lucien... We were scolded for being at the restricted area when we were kids. He said that my deeds were too heavy. 

(I knew it...) 

Adiel-kun's face was like that of a scolded child. 

Adiel: Even though it's true that we didn't enter the restricted area... Lucien told me not to worry about it. I don't understand... 

(He doesn't understand...?) 

With his words hanging there for a bit, I listened to him for a while. 

Adiel: What should I do? Even though I can't do anything about it... Even though I beat up the guys that didn't know anything and teased him for his wings turning black.

MC: Eh...

Adiel: I don't do that anymore though. Because he hates that... But, he was glaring. Because he hates it. 

He sunk down to the floor when he said that darkly. 

Adiel: Lucien... I'm sure that being with me must make him remember the time when his wings turned black. So, he doesn't want me near him... 

The way Adiel-kun was thinking about himself got darker. 

MC: ...Did Lucien-san say that? Does he remember the time when his wings turned black? 

When I asked him that, he bit his lip. 

Adiel: He didn't say that... He said, "don't worry about me". But, what does he mean by that? 

(I see...) 

For the first time, I've realized the reason behind the sense of discomfort that I've felt before. 

(I understand why Lucien-san felt pain from looking at Adiel-kun...) 

MC: ...

I softly placed my hand over Adiel-kun's tightly clenched fist. 

MC: ...I think Lucien-san got mad for your sake. 

Adiel: Eh?

MC: Besides, Lucien-san isn't the kind of person that would say such cruel things, right? 

Adiel: Of course. He's the kind of guy that's always thinking of people. 

MC: Then, I'm sure that he said that because you're his treasured friend. 

Adiel: T-That's... He's always concerned about people... Even when his wings turned black. 

(Ah, I see. That's what he's been thinking about...) 

I held Adiel-kun's hand tightly. 

MC: That's probably why. 

Adiel: Huh? What? 

MC: Lucien-san has actually forgiven you from the start. What you haven't forgiven... is yourself, Adiel-kun. 

When I told him that, his eyes widened in surprise. 

Adiel: But, if I do... I can't... Something like that... 

MC: No, it won't do any good if you don't forgive yourself. Besides... If you don't overcome it, Lucien-san won't be able to move forward either.

Adiel: ...Then, I need to force myself to do so? 

MC: Yes... I'm sure of it. 

Adiel: I... see... 

Adiel-kun became silent for a while, but... 

Adiel: ...Hahaha. I feel like I've been freed. 

When he smiled, he reached out to me. 

MC: Adiel-kun...? 

Then... 

When he wrapped his arms around my shoulders, we both fell onto the bed together. 

MC: ...

Adiel: Sorry, just let us stay like this for a while. 

As he held me, I lightly nodded. 

MC: Are you... okay? 

Adiel: Yeah... Thanks to you, I finally understand what Lucien wanted to tell me. 

(...Such a bitter face... It would seem so.) 

What he continued thinking of this whole time was the opposite of wanting to cause pain to someone important. As his arms clung onto me, I couldn't bring myself to push them away. 

Adiel: Thank you, MC. With you, it feels like I can free myself. So... Won't you stay with me for a little while longer? 

When Adiel-kun said that, my heart strongly throbbed. 

(I want to support him... This straightforward person.) 

MC: Yes. 

I firmly gave him that answer and softly wrapped my hands around his back. 

His fluffy soft wings tickled my hands...
