Chapter 5 - Sudden Embrace

When I woke up the next day, Kairi-san was already dressed and was about to leave the room. 

MC: ...Are you leaving? 

After I said that while rubbing my eyes, Kairi-san's expression didn't change once as he put the gun holder by his waist. 

Kairi: I know the whereabouts of the guy that killed my sister. I'm going to avenge her. 

MC: Eh...

I feel like cold water has been poured over my still sleepy head to clear out my thoughts. As I couldn't do anything, but stare at him...

Kairi: Are you still going to say that you trust me? 

Kairi-san asked me that softly. 

MC: Yes. 

As I looked straight at him in the eye, I responded clearly. 

Kairi: ...I see. 

Just as Kairi-san narrowed his eyes... 

Kairi: ...

MC: Ah...

Kairi-san suddenly pulled me towards him and hugged me tightly. 

(Kairi... - san?)

Kairi: ...

It felt like we could only hear each other's heartbeats. After so much time has passed... Kairi-san slowly lets go of me and turned his back on me. 

MC: Kairi-san! Will you... be back? 

Kairi: ...

MC: I'll be waiting for you. Without responding to my words, Kairi-san silently left the hideout. 

(Even though he said that I have nothing to do with it.) 

While thinking that the embrace felt like it was the end of everything, my heart felt like it was about to break...

Last Chapter - Forever by Your Side

After the embrace that felt like a sign of parting... I continued waiting for his return at the hideout. 

(Kairi-san... Please be safe.)

Then, the next day at dawn... As I was looking at the ordinary entrance, the door opened without a sound. 

MC: Kairi-san? Is that you, Kairi-san!? 

Kairi: ...!! Why are you... still here? 

Kairi-san widened his eyes in surprise. 

MC: Thank goodness, you're all right!

Just as I smiled at him as tears were about to fall from relief... 

Kairi: Geez, you're so!

MC: ...!

Letting his feelings take over, he shook both of my shoulders with his hands. 

Kairi: ...Enough already. Why do you trust me so much? I can't help, but worry whenever I look at you. I'm not someone you can trust, that's why I'd rather be alone. I just don't want to lose anyone important to me again...! Thinking about you disappearing... Just like with my sister. That's why I never got involved with anyone and only lived for revenge. 

When Kairi-san's words burst out like a broken dam, my heart couldn't help, but tighten. 

MC: ...It's because I'm worried. It's probably like how you think about your sister. 

Kairi: ...

When the strength in his arms that were holding my shoulders slowly loosened up, I was reflected in Kairi-san's eyes. 

MC: ...What happened to the person that killed your sister? 

Kairi: I shot him. 

It became deadly silent after he said that. When Kairi-san leaned against the wall, he silently closed his eyes. 

Kairi: I thought that I would feel relieved, but... I only felt empty like I've always been up till now. What am I supposed to do from here on? 

Along with those words, it felt like Kairi-san was about to disappear...

MC: Then, is it all right if I stay with you? 

I said that to him without thinking. 

Kairi: You? 

MC: Yes.

Kairi: ...

As we looked at each other, we became reflected in each other's eyes. While looking at me with his mouth closed, Kairi-san's expression softened up. 

Kairi: I've been curious about you this whole time because you resemble my sister. But, you guys are nothing alike at all. She still had good judgement. 

Kairi-san said that with an unbelievably soft tone. 

MC: ...What do you mean? 

Kairi: You're always in danger. 

MC: Same goes for you. 

When Kairi-san showed a smile as he looked like he's not used to it, I smiled as well. 

Kairi: ...Don't disappear in front of me, MC. 

MC: Okay, Kairi-san. 

When we made that promise, we looked at each other and became reflected in each other's eyes again. 

That was when he no longer had the heartrending look of an assassin of a fallen kingdom...
