Chapter 5 - Searching for Memories

In order to search for his lost memories, I suggested to Toto-kun that we should head to town. Despite that Toto-kun happily considers walking together... As we were heading to town, there was lots of pedestrian traffic at the moment that it was making him nervous and restless. 

Toto: So many unknown scents, I don't feel so good... 

With a discomforting look, Toto-kun murmured that as if he was about to throw up. 

Toto: Somehow... I'm getting a bad feeling. 

As he was looking around restlessly, he stood in place. Many people have already passed by us. 

Toto: Why are they looking over here... Everyone. 

(At this rate, we're going to lose sight of each other...) 

Toto: Huh, MC... Where are you...!? 

MC: Toto-kun...!? 

Going against the flow of people, I somehow ran over to where Toto-kun was. 

Toto: What a relief... I was thinking what I was going to do... 

As Toto-kun looked like he was about to cry, he was still like a puppy that was ignorant of the world.

I held Toto-kun's hand and headed to the side of the road.

Just as I was about to let go of his hand in a panic, Toto-kun held my fingertips tightly.

As Toto-kun and I were holding hands at the edge of the street, we looked at each other... 

Last Chapter - A Dear Friend

As Toto-kun and I were holding hands, we were standing at the edge of the street.

(Toto-kun...?) 

Toto-kun held my hand tightly as if he's saying that he doesn't want to let go. 

(Is he worried because we got separated earlier...?) 

Then, Toto-kun's nose perked up as if he sensed something. 

Toto: Huh... That path... 

MC: Eh? 

Toto: Can we go straight on this path? 

MC: Of course. 

With Toto-kun holding my hand, we went down the alley and then, we encountered a yellow brick road. 

Toto: ...This yellow brick road, it feels like I've walked on it with someone... 

Toto-kun murmured that as he furrowed his brow. 

MC: Could that be... With your owner? 

Toto: I don't know... But... It feels like... I... had a friend...

(Maybe...) 

MC: Could the person that you thought was your owner is actually your friend? 

(That may not be the reason, but... People owning people is really strange...) 

Toto: A friend... 

Toto-kun's expression softened up. 

Toto: My friend... 

Toto-kun made an odd, but happy looking expression as he murmured friend many times. 

Toto: This road... Can we walk on it for a bit longer? 

MC: Sure, it'll be nice if you remember something again?

While walking along the yellow brick road with Toto-kun leading me, we ascended to a hill where you could look down at the town. The cute houses below looked like dollhouses with the rainbow over them. 

(What a really nice view...!) 

Just as I looked up at Toto-kun to tell him that... 

Toto: ... 

He was looking at our hands that were connected with each other. 

MC: Toto-kun...? 

Noticing my gaze, Toto-kun quickly looked down. 

Toto: Um.. .Hand... I'm sorry. 

MC: Eh...? 

Toto: ...

His large eyes wavered uneasily. 

MC: Toto-kun, what's wrong? 

Trying to make it easier for Toto-kun to talk, I smiled as I pressed him. 

Toto: Master is a better person than me, so is it strange to be holding hands...? I want you to be my master, yet... I don't want to let go of your hand... I'm strange... Hey, what should I do?

With a teary expression, Toto-kun looked at me as his cheeks were blushing.

As Toto-kun was feeling embarrassed, I spoke to him gently. 

MC: What do you want to do, Toto-kun? 

Toto: I... 

Toto-kun loosened his grip around my hand. 

Toto: ...I really can't... I can't let go of you... 

While looking down with a red face, Toto-kun lightly shook his head. 

Toto: What are... these feelings? 

Just as his hand was about to let go, he held mine tightly again. 

Toto: Your hand is warm and it puts me at ease like this... 

When Toto-kun blinked, he looked at our connected hands wholeheartedly. 

Toto: So, I want to hold hands like this forever... This is the first time I've felt this way... 

MC: Toto-kun... 

Toto: I'll give up on making you my master, so... Can we hold hands again? 

MC: Sure, of course. 

(I'm more happy with this than being his master...) 

Toto: ...!

After he widened his eyes in surprise, he showed a soft, warm smile. 

Toto: Hehe... I'm so happy... 

Seeing that happy smile made a warmth dwell within my heart...

Toto: ...But. 

MC: What is it? 

Toto: Instead of my master, but the person I'm holding hands with, what kind of existence is that to me?

MC: Toto-kun, you heard me what kind of person that was earlier. 

Toto: ... 

After hearing my words, Toto-kun silently thought about it for a while, but... 

Toto: Ah! I get it!

His cheerful shout echoed towards the sky with a rainbow going across it. 

Toto: MC and I are friends!

MC: Yes!

Toto-kun happily shook my hand. 

MC: Wah... Toto-kun!

As my hand was being shook strongly, my body greatly shook as well. 

Toto: Ah... Sorry. But, don't let go. Please... You're really important... The person I'm holding hands with... My friend... 

MC: ...

As Toto-kun was looking glum, I smiled at him. 

MC: Don't worry, I won't let go. We're friends after all. 

Toto: MC...! Yeah!!

When he greatly nodded, he held my hand strongly again. 

Toto: Even without a master... I'm not lonely anymore!!

Toto-kun's smile shined brightly on my heart like the sun... While looking at the rainbow, the two of us that have become friends walked on the yellow brick road with our hands joined together...
