Chapter 5 - Say My Name

In order to search for Toto-kun's missing memories, I suggested that we should head to town. With Toto-kun being in high spirits from going on a walk, we went to town together... As I was walking beside him, he was a step behind me for some reason. 

MC: ...

Toto: What's wrong? 

MC: Um, I don't know the way, so can you walk ahead of me? 

Toto: Ah! I see... Then, I'll go on ahead. 

After saying that and taking a few steps, Toto-kun turned towards me. 

(Is there something wrong...?) 

As I was thinking that it was strange, Toto-kun... 

Toto: Hey. Right now, I want to hear you say my name properly... I'll do my best guiding you after this... So, if I do it well, I want you to praise me afterwards. Also, I want you to call me by my name. 

The moment when Toto-kun said that, I realized that I haven't said his name this whole time. 

MC: Ah, okay. Then... Toto-kun? 

Toto: Yes!

Toto-kun smiled in satisfaction as he responded energetically. Just like that, he was half a step ahead of me when we continued walking again. Although, within a few minutes... 

Toto: ...Are you still behind me? 

MC: Yes, it's okay. I'm here. 

Toto: That's good... 

As Toto-kun was acting like a dog that's making sure that it's owner was around during a walk, he kept on turning towards me with an uneasy look. 

(Does he feel nervous without me around...? Either way, he won't be able to find his memories...) 

After that, Toto-kun kept on doing the same thing repeatedly... Which was worrying me as I was dealing with him... 

Last Chapter - Beloved Master

In order to search for his missing memories, Toto-kun and I arrived at the town together... As Toto-kun was walking half a step ahead of me, he kept on turning towards me repeatedly while feeling really anxious. 

(How troubling... I wonder if we could really find his memories like this...) 

As I was worrying, I walked down the yellow brick road with Toto-kun guiding me. Then...

Toto: H-Huh?

Despite that Toto-kun was guiding me in town, we ended up arriving at a quiet forest by the time the sun has went down. 

(D-Did Toto-kun take the wrong path? Although...) 

With the beautiful sunset shining down on the verdant trees and the transparent lake... Everything was covered in beauty. 

Toto: ...Um... 

Suddenly, Toto-kun spoke up sadly. 

Toto: I didn't do a good job... I'm sorry... For not guiding you properly in town. You probably hate being my master, right...? 

Toto-kun made a disappointed and teary expression. 

MC: ...Toto-kun, there's no need to be sad. Also... I'm sorry for making you lead the way. 

When I apologized to Toto-kun, he raised his head right back up. 

Toto: You didn't do anything bad! I was the one who couldn't do it right... 

MC: No, that's not true. Also, even though you said that you didn't do a good job... This is a really nice forest. I'm glad that you took me here. 

Toto: Eh? ...Really...? 

MC: Yes!

Then, Toto-kun made a relieved smile. 

Toto: Then, I'll guide you through the forest! Since this place is really pretty, I'm sure that you'll like it too!

When he said that, we walked through the evening forest with him leading the way as he was half a step ahead of me...

After we went through the forest, we returned to town just as the sun went down. 

Toto: ...Ah, I know! Hey, how about we take a short break at that bench? I did a good job at guiding you this time. Right? 

Toto-kun pleaded as he looked at me. 

MC: I guess so. Let's do that after such a nice walk. 

Toto: Yeah!

Once I complied, Toto-kun happily took me to a bench. Although... 

MC: Eh, Toto-kun...? 

When I sat at the bench... Toto-kun was looking up at me as he was kneeling on the ground for some reason. 

Toto: ...? Hey, why are you so surprised? 

Toto-kun tilted his head to the side as he looked at me. 

MC: Eh? Ah... Y-Yeah. Your knees are going to get dirty from kneeling on the ground like that. So, how about you sit ont he bench too? 

Toto: I'm fine here!

MC: R-Really...? 

When he said that clearly with a happy expression, I have no way of responding to him. 

(I wonder... If this is what makes Toto-kun happy.) 

Toto: ...? What's wrong? 

MC: ...Your master... What did your master do? 

Toto: Eh? U-Um, what's this so suddenly...? 

MC: Yeah. I can't quiet put it to words well, but... Just like now, you really overworked yourself. That reason is probably because you needed your master... I was wonder if there was something that you wanted to do that wasn't for your master. 

Toto: ... 

After Toto-kun thought about what I said for a bit, he began to speak softly. 

Toto: Um... If I did something bad, I want to be scolded... Also, if I was good, then I want to be praised a lot! And... ...I want to... be with you forever... 

MC: Okay... 

Toto: ......Do you... hate being my master? Even so, I don't want anyone else, but you...

MC: Toto-kun... Can we be together, but with me not as your master? 

When I asked that softly to him, he stubbornly shook his head with a teary expression. 

(Toto-kun must have really treasured his master...) 

With painful feelings holding me, Toto-kun looked down at my feet sadly... 

Toto: I... hate being alone. I just wanted to be by my beloved master's side forever... So...

While kneeling, Toto-kun suddenly held my shoe. 

Toto: ...MC, become my master... 

Toto-kun pleaded to me as he rubbed his cheek against my shoe. 

Toto: Hey. Is that all right...? 

MC: Toto-kun... 

Before I knew it, I gave him a small nod. 

Toto: ...I'm so happy... Master. I'll belong to only you forever... 

The moonlight shined on the side of Toto-kun's beautiful face charmingly. When he looked at me with an enrapturing expression while rubbing his cheek against my shoe... An indescribable strange love was budding within my heart...
